Kik chat app 'involved in 1,100 child abuse cases'

23rd September 2018
The BBC (and others) reported this week on a Freedom of Information request revealing that the social networking tool Kik has been involved in a significant number of child sexual abuse cases.

"One teen chat app has featured in more than 1,100 child sexual abuse cases in the last five years, the BBC has found.  Of 29 police forces that supplied information to the BBC, all but one had child exploitation cases involving Kik."

Kik is an instant messaging mobile app which is popular with teens.  Like many social networking apps, it can be used for friends to connect and stay in touch but carries risks, particularly of inappropriate contact with online predators.
